Channel vs energy table
This page can be used to calculate the calibration line for a gamma spectrum (or any specra, for what it is worth). Insert, in the following table, the channel positions of the photopeaks and Compton edges and the relative energies. Click on the "calculate" button to determine the calibration line parameters.
For convenience it is possible to paste a table from spreadsheet software. Only the first two columns will be pasted.
- "Enter" adds a row to the table;
- "Tab" moves from the channel cell to the energy cell;
- Up and down arrows move to the upper or lower channel cell.

Common gamma rays energies
The following list contains some common gamma sources and their energies.
Clicking on the energies sets the last selected energy cell to that energy.

The calibration line parameters are calculated with a maximum likelihood estimation, assuming that the energies have negligible error and the channels are affected by a constant error.
We employed the formulas of the book "Teoria degli errori e fondamenti di statistica" by Maurizio Loreti, that is an open source book distributed according to the GPL license.
