ABSTRACT:
An introduction will be given on the main plasma physics problems that are encountered on the path to the development of a fusion reactor based on the magnetic confinement concept.
Examples of basic experimental studies aiming at addressing these open issues will be discussed, along with possible links with space and astrophysics.
These studies are conducted both on devices that have the same configuration as the expected first generation of magnetic fusion reactors and on simpler plasma configurations.
